When season 2 of Burn Notice came on the air I was working until 10:30 pm at night. Unfortunately Burn Notice is on from 10pm to 11pm. Instead of trying to find out the next time the replay was on or set my schedule around the show I simply went to the USA Network website and watched it. Fewer commercial interruptions and perfect streaming with my internet connection. I did the same with a lot of episodes of Psych. Youtube is great as well as you can watch Japanese anime in its entirety without having the edits that appear on Adult Swim. I’ve seen a lot of Trigun and Bleach this way. Tivo is old news thanks to internet television.

The Departed

I've watched this movie more times than I can count. Martin Scorsese directs this R rated 151 minute long film starring Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, and Alec Baldwin. Just looking at the director and cast alone you know this is am ust see movie.
So anyway I was flipping through my HBO channels last nigh and saw that The Departed was on. It was just starting so I decided to watch it again. Funny thing is I own the DVD. Basically here's the plot in a nutshell.
Jack Nicholson is Boston crime boss Frank Costello. Matt Damon's character Colin has been training to be a Boston State Trooper and has grown up under Costello's wing. Once Colin becomes a police officer he has someone in the police department who can tip him off as to what the police are up to. DiCaprio's character Billy Costigan grew up in the Irish neighborhoods and was what Wahlberg's undercover police character describes as a "double kid." Costigan went from middle class to poor every week and his family was deep in the Irish mob. So Sheen and Wahlberg tell Costigan that he cannot be a police officer, instead he must go undercover for them and infiltrate Costello's organization.
Both DiCaprio and Damon play police officers and we see their rise and fall simultaneously throughout the film. No one knows DiCaprio is a cop and everyone thinks that Damon is a great cop. The funny part is neither is what they appear. Baldwin stars as Damon's police boss giving him orders to stop Costello.
Well that's pretty much the film, you have an undercover and a crooked cop who are working against each other. Much of this is revealed in the first few minutes of the film so I don't really consider any of this to be a spoiler. The acting and directing are both brilliant in this film, and I can honestly say the only movie I've watched more of in my life was Fight Club.
There are no cons to this film, only pros. Pick up a copy today.

The Lost Boys - The Tribe

I was so excited to hear they finally made a new Lost Boys movie. Hell, I even remember they mentioned it on an episode of The 2 Coreys where Feldman told Haim "They're making one and they don't want us." Don't ask me why I was watching The 2 Corey's, I think I stumbled across it somehow. OK so on with the movie review.
Feldman did make it into this film, as did Haim but only for about 2 seconds. Feldman is still a vampire hunter and a surfboard shaper. This time instead of dirt bikes the cool thing is surfing. The children of Michael and Starr from the first film just lost Michael and Starr in an auto accident or something like that so they move to some town down south. You see the first film took place in Santa Cruz, this one is more like Venice Beach or something like that. So the guy is a former pro surfer and his sister is a 17 year old girl with her hormones raging. The untalented Sutherland brother stars as the lead vampire in this film. Oh by the way Sex Machine from From Dusk Til Dawn (I forgot the actors name) appears for about a minute. Basically the girl winds up turning into a half vampire and the brother has to save her with the help of Edgar Frog. A lot of this plays out the same as the original.
Pros: Corey Feldman plays a histerical role in this film.
Cons: It's pretty cheesy.
Verdict: If you have some spare time rent it, otherwise ignore it.

M. Night Shyamalan

Am I the only one who doesn't like M. Night? I doubt it. I've been ranting and raving about how bad this guy is since The Sixth Sense and it seems that others are finally jumping on my side of the argument. For the one or two people who haven't seen this film yet I apologize for ruining it for you. Bruce Willis gets shot in the first few minutes of the film. The little kid who sees dead people tells Bruce Willis that the dead people don't know they're dead. Pretty much right when Willis gets shot I put 2 and 2 together based off the previews I've seen of the film.
Then M. Night put out Unbreakable. I saw this with a couple of my friends in theaters. "They call me Mr. Glass." We were quoting that for awhile but only because we were laughing at how terrible this film was. Then a co-worker of mine made me watch The Village. Wow, what a terrible film that was. Now, me being an idiot went to go see M. Night's first rated R film ever - The Happening. This was nothing happening for 2 hours on screen. Nothing exciting, nothing great.
South Park did a great job ripping on Night during the Imagination Land episode. "Well what if it turns out the terrorists are really werewolves." This was followed by "No, Night that's a plot twist." So Night comes up with another plot twist. He doesn't write movies, he writes plot twists and builds a movie around them. And that my friend is not movie making.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thesemilargeshow.blogspot.com/2008/09/m-night-shyamalan.html' title='M.
